Get ready for an evening of love as Kem appears in concert at the BJCC Concert Hall on Friday, February 10, 2012.  Tickets are available at the BJCC box office, all Ticketmaster locations, ticketmaster.com, or you can charge by phone at 800-745-3000.  A Nashville-born, Detroit-based singer, songwriter, musician, and producer, Kem (born Kim Owens) overcame homelessness and addiction to become one of the most popular adult contemporary R&B artists of the 2000s. He funded the recording of his self-released debut, Kemistry, by working as a waiter and as a singer in a wedding band. After he sold 10,000 copies, the disc was picked up by Motown for nationwide release in February 2003.

With his third album, INTIMACY, which debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart in August 2010, KEM provides an insightful collection of love ballads, reflective of the inner thoughts of a man seeking to understand a deeper meaning of intimacy.  KEM, who self-produced his first two CDs, KEMISTRY and KEM ALBUM II, opens up creatively by featuring a string orchestra, collaborating with outside producers and including two duets on INTIMACY.  INTIMACY features vocal and production collaborations with Jill Scott and the late legendary Motown Producer, David Van DePitte. For the first time, Motown Recording Artist KEM invited an outside producer, Rex Rideout (Luther Vandross, Angie Stone), into his studios to assist with the completion of the CD. The result is a fuller sound and a broader range of musical styles that have greater reach and appeal to a wider audience.

Appearing with Kem is fellow Detroit-based singer and songwriter K'Jon.  K'Jon was first exposed on the airwaves of his city in 2001 with "My Shorty," a single spun prominently by a couple local R&B stations. The modest hometown success led to a spot on the soundtrack for the 2003 movie 2 Fast 2 Furious, with the laid-back and Latin-flavored "Miami." K'Joncollaborated with several artists on Ludacris' Disturbing tha Peace label, including Shareefa, for whom he co-wrote three tracks that appeared on the 2006 album Point of No Return.

Washington, D.C's Tony Terry was a backing vocalist for groups such as Sweet Sensation and the Boogie Boys before moving to a solo career in a soul/funk/dance vein.  He has had a number of hits, including 1991's "With You."  Terry has moved in a Gospel direction with 2006's "Changed."
